The dockers finished second to GSU in the last season.
National team left attacker Dennis Omollo says his former side Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are still in contention for the league title despite the challenging season the side has had.
The Sammy Mulinge-coached side fell into trouble after featuring for the second league leg without any training due to some management shortcomings brought about by the changes in the company’s top leadership.
A second blow for the dockers came in the third leg after Mulinge’s charges wee docked points for fielding Omollo and Peter Kamara who had just returned from professional stints against Prisons Nairobi.
The duo was not able to feature in the remaining matches of the third leg and will also sit out the remaining league games, leaving the dockers with a herculean task as they look to dethrone General Service Unit (GSU).
“I believe the players who are doing duty in the league have what it takes to turn the team’s fortunes around. The target now is to fight for a playoff slot and I believe in he team. Even when Kamara and I are not playing, training with the squad is motivation enough especially for the youngsters,” Omollo offered.
The left attacker was speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing Bitok International Tournament where KPA won their two group matches against Kenya Army and Equity Bank to book a place in the quarters set for Saturday 8 April.

Both Omollo and Kamara were able to play in the tournament, playing a crucial role in the two wins with the skipper, Omolo, confident than they can challenge for the tournament title and boost the team’s confidence going back to the league.
“The two preliminary teams turned out not to be as tough as we expected. Against Equity, our good services disrupted their game plan so we kept serving hard and also blocked well, which made it easy for us to win," Omollo added.
